Continuing with Ayu's release on the 8th of each month, her mini album 'again' leaked early. I honestly feel like this is one of her most refreshing releases in awhile. I love all the songs on this mini and even the remixes and orchestral versions were good. I'm not a huge fan of the covers.. I find it a bit odd that she does this after she announces her relationship with her dancer Maro and then puts him everywhere.. But I just want her to be happy. ♥ Anyways, onto these songs..
Wake me up - An interesting song, I quite like this one. Quite a bit edgier than the other songs she's been putting out lately. To be honest though, I'm not a huge fan of this song yet, but I think it will grow on me. I think it was the random english that was throwing me off.. This is a solid rock/pop track however.
Sweet scar - This is a very sweet and soft ballad. There is a really lovely airy and nostalgic feel with this song. I am a huge fan of the piano and the instrumentals in this song. It's very soothing, but I just wish it built into something. I really like it, but I just wanted it to pop a bit. Other than that, it is a very beautiful song that is reminiscent of her very early ballads.
snowy kiss - I think a lot of people assumed this song would be a ballad, me included. Nope, jk. From the first few seconds it pretty much explodes into an electro/dance song that resulted into an almost insta-love. I think it's one of the most interesting ones she's put out in awhile and I love instrumental and arrangement. It's like everything I love in an ayu song thrown together. I think it is one of her longest songs ever, clocking at 6:06 though the other songs felt longer to me. This song reminds me of Last Angel a bit which I also love. I can really feel the energy in this one and it makes me forgive the lack of power in sweet scar since this one is full of it.. It's probably my favourite from this mini.
Ivy - I think this is a very pretty ballad. It is hard to follow up 'snowy kiss' but it works for me. It has such a subdued power and as others have suggested, this sounds like a song off of one of my favourite cd's in years 'Love Songs'. I really enjoy the repetitiveness of the verses. This may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's very enjoyable to me. It makes me feel slightly sad.
I really think the orchestral version of 'Missing' was lovely as was the Acoustic Piano version of 'Melody' but they weren't my absolute favourites. I like the original versions a bit more. The remixes however are pretty decent. I enjoy the 'Wake me up' Remocon mix and the 'snowy kiss' Shohei Matsumoto remix. I thought they were great club mixes with traces of dubstep that wasn't totally dominating these songs. Regardless, they're still very enjoyable.. I'm really excited to see the PV's. |
